I am serious! I was lost in this software for almost an hour and didn’t even had to open Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox (or Internet Explorer for those who still use IE). Samsung and Verizon: Reality U820

Samsung has just joined the smart phones race with their new phone Reality U820. We all know about Samsung and its phones but will it have enough to compare with older players such as iPhone and HTC?

Verizon Wireless and Samsung united on this one and they have released the new Reality U820 phone. I must say that design looks promising and it resembles to the Motorola Droid phone because of the QWERTY slide out keyboard. As for other specifications it has 3 inch 240×400 touch screen display, and it is bit smaller in screen size than its competition but it comes with decent 3.2 Megapixel camera with night shot mode and video recording.
As for connectivity it has Bluetooth but unlike competition it doesn’t have WiFi support for some reason. New Reality has email support that works with Microsoft Office Exchange allowing synchronization with the desktop or remote server. Also it allows you to access to social networking sites, has media center and visual voice mail. It has standard storage that allows up 16 GB microSD card. When it comes to price this new Samsungs smart phone can be purchased for 79.99$ with two year contract with Verizon.

Bottom line is that this is quite a nice phone from Samsung, but Reality U820 doesn’t have enough to deal with other competitors such as HTC or iPhone. Still it’s Samsung first smart phone and it’s a lot cheaper than others and I’m sure that the newer models will give better results soon enough.

FLEXI – All In One Lighting Source Concept

The FLEXI is an all in one lighting concept by designers Kyeore Kim, Jaesuk Han, Sungkuk Hong, and Sena Joo. The idea is to provide many different forms of lighting from one source, to be a lightweight product to take when camping or for general use.

The FLEXI is basically a silicon sheet which features a row of LED lights at one end of it. The sheet of silicon is meant to be rectangular and very thin, to allow it to take up little room while being light weight. By having the LED lights incorporated into the design only along one edge it allows the sheet to be used in many different ways. By positioning the lights at one end of it when rolled up, the FLEXI can be used as a torch, the multiple LEDs giving it a bright beam of directed light. By rolling it with the LEDs along one edge you create a longline light, and by leaving the silicon mat flat you create a useful ambient light source.
Though LEDs do not require much electricity to work, they do require some. Thus far there is no suggestion of where a power source would be placed and incorporated into the design. It would be nice to see maybe a flexible solar panel also built into the light.

Multitasking for iPad is an application that brings multitasking to the Apple iPad for three pieces of software. The application allows Safari, Twitter and Facebook to multitask.

The application uses a version of the Safari browser from Apple [AAPL] which is already allowed by developers.
Mixed in to that browser is the functionality of Twitter and Facebook that can run at the same time allowing you to browse the web while checking status updates and sending tweets.
The Multitasking for iPad uses a dual-pane view that allows Safari to run in the main window. Windows then pop open within the application where you can download data from Twitter and Facebook
Although this certainly isn’t the multitasking we saw when iPhone OS 4.0 was announced, it certainly is a decent in-between step that you can install while waiting for the official OS 4.0 update that will arrive later this year and perhaps you might find that it offers a very good experience which is exactly what we have heard from several sources.
The next application the same company have created is called Multitasking Browser that works in a similar way although uses a dual-browser configuration (rotating to landscape focuses on the main window) whereby around 20 mobile apps can be run in a second window such as GMail, GTalk and various other applications.

Canon EOS 7D Firmware 1.2.1 Launched

Canon have launched a firmware update for the Canon EOS 7D camera that fixes a number of minor problems including the vertical magenta-coloured banding that has been spotted on some still images.

Firmware Version 1.2.1 incorporates the following improvements and fixes.

1. Extends the timing at which the high temperature warning indicator is displayed and the timing of automatic shut down of the camera due to a rise in internal temperature during Live View or EOS Movie functions.
2. Optimizes program shift when the ISO setting of the camera is set to AUTO.
3. Corrects a misspelling in the French-language menu.
4. Corrects a phenomenon in which vertical magenta-colored banding appears in still images taken in movie-shooting mode.
(This only occurs when in Manual exposure mode and when the ISO speed is set to “H”. Note that this phenomenon only affects units with Firmware Version 1.2.0)

Canon also point out in the announcement that this is for users who use version 1.2.0 or below and follow on to say those already on 1.2.1 need not get the download which is kind of obvious really!

It’s the new hot thing right from the Asus. It’s a new graphics card, called Asus Ares 5970, and just as old ATI Radeon HD 5970 this one uses two 5870 graphics cards in one.

I have to admit that this monster from Asus looks huge and I’m afraid that it might break your motherboard in half, but unlike good old ATI Radeon HD 5970 that uses two 5870s graphics cards, slightly underclocked this new beast from Asus uses two of the same cards with full power and without any underclocking allowing it to work at full speed without any problems. So much power requires that you connect your card to the auxiliary power connector on your motherboard in order to keep it running. Asus Ares 5970 has beaten old Radeon HD 5970 in most benchmark tests and it uses 260W to 294W of power. So in order to use this thing at full power you might need Extreme Edition Core i7 and Rampage motherboard but that’s only if you’re a hardcore gamer. Without a doubt Asus Ares 5970 will satisfy all you gaming needs and it will be able to run all the latest games without any problems.

Only limitation is the price of this graphics card, and I’m sure it won’t be cheap and besides the price, there have been speculations that this card won’t be released in the United States. So if you’re a hardcore gamer I’ll suggest that you start saving money for thing because it will be worth it.

NASA R2: The first human like robot in space

We have seen many robots come from NASA during the years which have been sent into space , but none of them looked so much like a human, until now. The new model known as R2 will be the first robot in outer space that will actually help the astronauts with their research.

This human like robot known carries the name Robonaut 2 or R2 and it’s the successor of older Robonaut model. It has been developed by NASA and the GM and it has been announced that that R2 will be traveling to the Space Station in September. Unlike his predecessor this model is more flexible and designed to help out the astronauts with lifting heavy objects. Although R2 resembles like a human with two arms he moves with set of 4 wheels which makes him perfect for exploring planet surfaces. Many robots were sent into space before but none of them looked like a human more that this one. How much this model will actually help the astronauts remains to be seen, because his movement isn’t tested in a zero gravity space. Anyway, I guess that we will have to wait until September to see how R2 and the space crew work together in a space station.

One thing is certain, R2 is a great step both for robotics and space explorations, I’m positive that robots are the future when it comes to space explorations, and I’m sure that there will be more robots in space soon enough.
